Sprouting For Your Health

Microgreens are greens that have been harvested in their seedling stage, before they sprout into fully grown plants. Though they may seem small and adorable, the benefits of greens are that they’re packed full of the nutrients that your body needs. In comparison to fully developed plants, microgreens contain higher levels of vitamins and carotenoids.

The most common forms of microgreens are pea shoots and sunflower sprouts, which are grown and harvested in-house at The Sweet Spot. With microgreens, we also grow and harvest wheatgrass, which also contains a number of vitamins and nutrients. Everything grown and harvested in The Sweet Spot is organic and raw.

Wheatgrass is young wheat which is sprouted from wheat seeds. It contains over 90 minerals, making it an excellent source of calcium, trace minerals, iron, magnesium, potassium, sodium, selenium, and zinc.

It also contains essential enzymes, such as:
• Protease and amylase which both help in digestion
• Cytochrome oxidase, a very powerful antioxidant
• Transhydrogenase, known for strengthening the heart
• Lipase, a fat splitting enzyme
• Superoxide dismutase, known to lessen the effect of radiation and slow cellular aging

It also contains 19 amino acids, the building blocks of protein, making it one of the most remarkable single sources of nutrients. Wheatgrass also includes essential vitamins, such as vitamins B, C, E, and carotene (Vitamin A). When taken as a juice, or a shot as it most commonly is, it cleanses and purifies the body by activating the white blood cells, which boost the body’s immune system.

Wheatgrass also contains high amounts of chlorophyll, which offers a number of benefits of greens. Chlorophyll acts as a natural cleanser for the body, as well as a blood strengthener and an energy booster. Some of the benefits of greens like wheatgrass are that it has been shown to quickly build red blood cells, normalize blood pressure by dilating the blood pathways, destroy poisonous carbon dioxide, release free oxygen, and promote higher metabolism and stimulated enzyme systems.

The sunflower sprout offers one of the most balanced forms of a complete plant protein, providing all of the essential amino acids to help repair muscle tissue while it supports the enzymes of the body. Other benefits of greens such as sunflower greens are that they also contain up to 100 times the enzymes of full grown sunflower greens, so your body can more easily assimilate important phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals.

Sunflower sprouts are also an excellent food for weight loss, as they are nutritionally rich while having a very low caloric content. They also contain lecithin, an enzyme which helps break down fatty acids in the body. Sunflower greens also help to boost your reproductive health due to the high zinc content in the sprouts. Zinc works with over 300 enzymes in the body to help your overall health.

Sunflower greens are also incredible for boosting your immune system.
